Castelli Designs for Haworth
This well-known Italian furniture manufacturer was founded by Cesare Castelli in Bologna in 1877 on craft-based lines. After the Second World War it established a growing reputation for innovative design and modular office furniture systems. A designer closely associated with the company in this period was Giancarlo Piretti, who commenced his professional career in their employ. His designs included the award-winning folding Plia chair (1967) made from transparent plexiglass and steel 1967 (winning the Compasso d'Oro in 1981), the folding Plana chair (1969), and Platone armchair (1971). In 1979 Piretti worked with Emilio Ambasz on the Vertebra office furniture range (receiving the Compasso d'Oro in 1981). Other designers associated with the company included Rodolfo Bonetto and Richard Sapper, who designed a number of office furniture ranges for the company, including Dalle nove alle cinque (From nine to five) in 1987. Castelli's designs for Haworth represent the most flexible, modern and stylish form-follows-function furnishings, equipping your company with modern but livable furnishings.
